Accessibility statement
We build this store to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or reduced motion. Where we fall short, we would rather list it than pretend.
Our commitment
Buying clothes online should not depend on being able to use a mouse, see fine detail, or tolerate motion. We treat accessibility as part of building the site rather than as a later fix, and we test each release against the checks listed below.
Conformance target
We aim for WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Our current self-assessment is partially conformant: most of the site meets the standard, and the specific areas that do not are listed under known gaps.
What is already in place
- Keyboard. Every interactive control can be reached and operated with a keyboard. Focus is always visible, and it is moved into and returned from the menu, bag drawer, filter panel and image viewer.
- Skip link. A "skip to main content" link is the first focusable item on every page.
- Contrast. Body text meets at least 4.5:1 against its background and large text at least 3:1, in both the light and dark themes.
- Text sizing. Layouts are built in relative units and remain usable at 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Reduced motion. If your system requests reduced motion, reveal animations, the scrolling text band and hover zooms are disabled automatically.
- Images. Product and editorial photographs carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Forms. Every field has a visible label, errors appear next to the field they belong to in words rather than colour alone, and the first field with a problem receives focus on submit.
- Structure. Pages use landmarks and a single logical heading order, so screen reader users can jump between sections.
- Targets. Interactive controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels with clear spacing between them.
- Colour independence. No information, including stock status and sale pricing, is conveyed by colour alone.
Known gaps
These are open and being worked on. If one of them blocks you, contact us and a person will complete the task with you by phone or email at no extra cost.
| Issue | Impact | Target fix |
|---|---|---|
| Embedded third-party map | The studio map is supplied by a third party and is not fully keyboard operable. The address is given as text directly above it. | Q4 2026 |
| Older journal images | A small number of archive photographs have short alternative text that could be more descriptive. | Q3 2026 |
| Payment provider checkout | The hosted payment step is controlled by our processor, so its conformance is not entirely in our hands. We report issues to them and can take an order by phone instead. | Ongoing |
What we test with
- NVDA with Firefox on Windows
- VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS
- Keyboard-only navigation in Chrome, Safari and Firefox
- Browser zoom to 200% and 400%, plus 320 pixel wide viewports
- Operating-system reduced-motion and dark-mode settings
- Automated contrast and markup checks on every page before release
The Mercer Street studio
We want to be straightforward about this: our studio is on the third floor of a walk-up building with no elevator, so it is not wheelchair accessible. If you would like to see or try pieces and cannot manage the stairs, email or call us. We regularly bring garments to a ground-floor space nearby by appointment, at no charge.
Report a barrier
If something on this site is difficult or impossible to use, tell us. Please include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using if you know them.
